This internship is designed to provide real-world experience in top U.S. design studios while allowing you to immerse yourself in the culture and energy of your host city. You’ll work directly with clients, contribute to meaningful projects, and gain mentorship from experienced architects and designers — all while discovering what it’s like to live and work in a new environment.
The program is flexible, offering 3, 6, or 12-month placements in iconic cities, so you can tailor your experience to fit your goals and schedule. Beyond the studio, you’ll explore neighborhoods, cultural activities, and build independence and resilience — all while meeting peers from around the world who share your passion for design.

For Paula Tapia Sanchez, her two and a half months in New York were far beyond what she expected. Interning at S9 Architecture, she engaged in multiple projects, collaborated with diverse teams, and deepened her understanding of architecture in a dynamic professional environment. From day one, Paula was not just completing tasks — she was learning, contributing, and growing with constant support from her colleagues.
But the experience extended beyond the office. Living in New York allowed her to explore the city’s iconic landmarks, cultural gems, and diverse communities. Weekend trips to cities like Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington D.C. added another layer of adventure, broadening her perspective of the U.S. and its culture. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, Cristian Liu Chang spent the summer navigating the fast-paced energy of the city while juggling software like AutoCAD, Photoshop, and SketchUp. At his studio, he contributed to a wide range of projects — from large urban developments to residential houses — gaining hands-on experience that combined creativity with problem-solving.
A highlight of Cristian’s summer was delivering a lecture at UC Berkeley’s [IN]LAND Studio, where he shared insights on Artificial Intelligence in Design and demonstrated practical applications using tools like Midjourney and Prime AI. Working with students from diverse backgrounds, he explored how AI can address modern design challenges, from sustainability to social equity, while also strengthening his own expertise. Architect-US Summer Internship Program Overview
- Requirements: have a good knowledge of the English language AND be enrolled in 4th or 5th year of Architecture School OR just finished your Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
- Locations: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, Miami, Houston, Puerto Rico, and many more!
