Play DVRC

Manuel Mateu Sanchis joins us for the fourth time in the Architect-US Portfolio Challenge, he submitted a project called Play DVRC, which focuses on the challenge of people flowing through an urban space.

As people leave tall skyscrapers in cities, they are going from a multi-level environment to a simple one to two layer space on the street. This issue of directing people in efficient flows is what Manuel takes on in this project. As you can see in the first image, he shows how the flow does not work and leads to congestion. In the second image, we see how this flow is improved through different multi-leveled structures and new bridges that help the people avoid crossing the street via the road.

When he finished school, he started his studies in architecture, at the Polytechnic University of Valencia ( ETSAV), where he discovered a new world of possibilities. During the 2016/2017 school year, Manuel decided to take advantage of the Erasmus scholarship to expand his knowledge and went to Munich, Germany; in one of the best European technical universities (Tu Munchen). In 2019 he graduated as a design professional from IESE Business School – University of Navarra.

Once completing his bachelor and master studies in Architecture, he decided to leave Spain to experience being an Architect in Paris. His first stop was the acclaimed studio Dominique Perrault, and through this experience he was able to take on large scale projects for the first time. Not only this, he also tried his hand at architecture competitions and learned how to work in a more collaborative way with his team.
