Tischchen Computer

In Architect-US Job+J1 Visa Program family, we have wonderful architects such as Francesca Paola Montella. Montella got to Intern for 6 months at Berlin-based Tamandua, and worked along with Founder Ferdinand Schmelzer. Tischchen Computer was a project she worked on during this time.

We have some of the best talent in Architecture in our Architect-US Job+J1 Visa Program family, and one of those incredible architects is Francesca Paola Montella. Montella submitted a Professional Experience Project called Tischchen Computer for the Portfolio Challenge. She had worked as an Intern for 6 months at the Berlin-based Tamandua, and worked along with Founder Ferdinand Schmelzer.

Tischchen Computer is a wooden table designed to stabilize the office computer, generally laid on the floor underneath the desk. Its elephant shape derives from a series of experimentations and model making and aims to communicate a playful image but at the same time guarantee access to all of the computer’s components and freedom for the ventilation system. The structure also provides a storage space suitable for books or CDs. The product has been realized through a numerical control milling machine. The assembling process consists of very few steps. The elements are all linked through dovetail joints. The chosen material is a 9 mm multiplex wood. For me, this project was an extremely valuable experience because, first, I had the opportunity to control the project from its concept design to its final production and, second, I had so much fun doing it.

Montella used Rhinoceros/Grasshopper/Vray/Photoshop to create these beautiful renderings.

How would you design a wooden computer stand?!?! Would it fit in place like a puzzle? Leave us your thoughts in the comments section below!! 👇👇👇
