Inglese Architecture and Engineering‘s Selected Projects

THE WRIGHT-CLARK MANSION – NEWARK, NJ

The Wright-Clark Mansion, a magnificent example of Tudor-Revival architecture in Newark, was constructed in 1920. The home, which is part of Newark’s Forest Hill Historic District, was abandoned and allowed to decay in the 1980s. The windows and roof eventually failed due to years of neglect and vandalism, severely damaging or ruining most of the elaborate wood and plaster decoration. The intricate brick exterior, original counterbalanced wood windows, stucco, and all of the ancient woodwork were thoroughly restored as part of the adaptive reuse and restoration process. The mansion was converted into seven apartments, and the city has praised the restoration as a marvel. For the restoration, all architectural, structural, and MEP services were performed by Inglese Architecture and Engineering.

98 BROAD – NEWARK, NJ

98 Broad, which is in the North Ward of Newark, has been abandoned since 1989 after being completely damaged by two terrible fires. Following extensive renovations and adaptive reuse, the building currently houses 16 flats, 10 of which are reserved for single mothers and victims of domestic abuse. The entire exterior was restored, windows were replaced, and the interior was redesigned with new stair and elevator cores as part of the reuse. The redesigned interior has numerous thoughtful elements, such as the ornate wood and wrought iron main door, the welcoming lobby, and the exposed brick corridors, all done with consideration for the building’s new purpose. All civil, architectural, structural, and MEP design was done by Inglese Architecture and Engineering.

THE G.G. GREEN BUILDING – WOODBURY, NJ

GG Green is an exceptional instance of restoration and redevelopment that helped revitalize a significant area of the City of Woodbury, Gloucester County, and restored a nationally-registered historic structure. Situated in the core of what was once a bustling business district, GG Green offers 52 one-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments in downtown Woodbury in addition to roughly 7,000 square feet of retail space along South Broad Street.

After the Virginia earthquake of 2011, it was determined that the abandoned building and its attached, similarly vacant buildings were structurally unstable. The City of Woodbury contacted developers to assume ownership of the land, and they fenced off the sidewalk in front of the building and the nearby streets. A contract was reached to fix the building, add age-restricted apartments to the top stories, and convert the ground floor into shop space. All civil, architectural, structural, and MEP design services were rendered by Inglese Architecture and Engineering, along with construction management services.
