Back in Spain, I used to play in my university volleyball team so I thought it would be a good and a different way to experience my Host Company and get to know my colleagues better and therefore feel more at ease at work. American culture is so different from European in terms of the professional world.
Usually, there are lots of benefits you may take advantage of regarding cultural and social activities as well as discounts on healthcare, transportation, education, sometimes even in restaurants… Isn’t it fascinating? I am trying to take as much advantage of it all as I can but so far my first step was joining the HOK Blockers! Isn’t it a cool and a different way to experience my Host Company?.
We will be playing ten matches within the municipal volleyball league. We have already played two of them and we’ve beaten the opposite team both times! Joining my company’s team couldn’t have been a better idea because not only am I having fun while doing exercise but also I’ve succeeded in making new friends within the office. I wouldn’t have met most of the people in the team if I hadn’t joined it since HOK is such a large corporate company that you’d never have the chance to work with everybody. After every match, we went for some beers in a bar close by and there was where socializing actually happened.
Apart from a nice way to get integrated, it’s also been very helpful because there is a lot going on in the office that I was not aware of and now I have more people telling me about it all.
