Architect-US

One year already

Hello Architect-Us crew!

Can not believe it has been a year already, crazy how time flies! If someone told me some years ago that I would be living in the US for so many months I would not have believed them. It would feel so different from the type of life I was used to, but here I am after two Chicago winters, lots of caffeinated mornings, cultural activities, new friends, and an incrementing professional growth. It has hard to know where to start, as routine seems to wash time away… but I am certain that this year (and being able to work and live in the US) has forever changed me.

Being able to be part of Wheeler & Kearns Architects has been nothing but exciting, refreshing, and incredibly motivating. During these past months, I have felt like any other team member, gaining considerable responsibility at very different project typologies and stages, getting out of my comfort zone, and learning so much. From working on private residential houses to non-profit types of projects, the wide range of projects I have been exposed to has been enriching in so many ways.

My co-workers and friends have made me feel so part of the city. The culture shock of moving from Europe has been diluted with plans and activities of all sorts.  Live music performances, delicious food, museums, and unexpected dive bars…

If I look back in time it is incredible the number of experiences and learning that can happen in the span of a year. I can not thank Architect-US enough for sponsoring me during this adventure and making the whole process as easy as it can possibly be. When I first stepped on the plane I didn’t really know what to expect. I was so nervous and excited but had no idea what was waiting for me. As long as my stay here may last, Chicago will always feel like home.
