Company Culture

For the longest time design only existed for the elite and for a small insular culture. I have worked hard for the last 20 years trying to make design a public subject.
Karim Rashid’s company culture is defined by Karim’s Manifesto on how design and architecture should be pursued. Below is an exert from his manifesto that the company lives by.
[ «Today poetic design is based on a plethora of complex criteria: human experience, social behaviors, global, economic and political issues, physical and mental interaction, form, vision, and a rigorous understanding and desire for contemporary culture. Manufacturing is based on another collective group of criteria: capital investment, market share, production ease, dissemination, growth, distribution, maintenance, service, performance, quality, ecological issues and sustainability. The combination of these factors shape our objects, inform our forms, our physical space, visual culture and our contemporary human experience. These quantitative constructs shape business, identity, brand and value. This is the business of beauty. Every business should be completely concerned with beauty – it is after all a collective human need.

I believe that we could be living in an entirely different world – one that is full of real contemporary inspiring objects, spaces, places, worlds, spirits and experiences. Design has been the cultural shaper of our world from the start. We have designed systems, cities, and commodities. We have addressed the world’s problems. Now design is not about solving problems, but about a rigorous beautification of our built environments. Design is about the betterment of our lives poetically, aesthetically, experientially, sensorially, and emotionally. My real desire is to see people live in the modus of our time, to participate in the contemporary world, and to release themselves from nostalgia, antiquated traditions, old rituals, kitsch and the meaningless. We should be conscious and attune with this world in this moment. If human nature is to live in the past – to change the world is to change human nature.» ]

Vita was able to make the most of her internship with Karim Rashid in their Shenzen, China office in 2016. After making a great impression on her counterparts, she was able to get another opportunity to work with Karim Rashid in their New York City office in late 2019Vita has been working there for over 6 months now, and is truly enjoying the work of being a Spatial Designer. The Architect-US Job+J1 Visa Program is an ideal way to get your chance to shine in the USA architecture industry, and Vita is a wonderful example of how hard work and an open mind can take you all over the world.

Laura Teodora Palimariciuc

Laura worked with Karim Rashid from mid 2019 til mid 2020, but unfortunately, due to the pandemic Laura had to cut her experience short. She was able to apply many of her skills that she learned during her Masters in Architecture at ETSAM in Madrid. Before her experience in New York City with Karim, Laura worked in Madrid with Zinc Arquitectos Studio.

Alicia Palacios Moreno

Alicia Palacios, will be joining Karim Rashid this year, and looks forward to be able to take her lessons from her time at the School of Architecture in the University of Malaga and apply them at Karim’s firm. Alicia views architecture as a reflection of our society and our values. In order to progress and improve our standard of living we must push for further innovation and promotion of creative solutions to our urban maladies. We must be proactive as a society, and architects must form the head of the spear when taking on our shared struggles. She joined the Architect-US Job+J1 Visa Program about half a year ago, and is excited to work with such a legend like Karim, who has a vision for a better and more just world.
