Maria da Silva Menezes Reis, a top notch architects in the Architect-US Job+J1 Visa Program, has presented their project called Rural School in Haiti. Maria’s project sought to create a new school design that benefits the youth of Haiti in a way that takes into account their culture and specific needs according to age. Menezes Reis emphasized that the project intends to reflect on the relation that architecture establishes with its past. Thus, by reflecting and reviewing architecture within Haiti, Maria was able to design a school that is both simple yet representative.

Maria graduated from Universidad Autonoma de Lisboa in 2016 and has since worked at Frederico Valsassina Arquitectos. Maria has been working in Portugal, but she is gearing up for her next career step towards the USA. Her vision is to create architecture that speaks to the humanity of those that use and interact with the space she creates.
