Over Christmas break I had the chance to spend a day in downtown Chicago.
A great opportunity for an architect to be able to see the buildings that represents the Chicago School of Architecture. They were among the first to promote the new technologies of steel-frame construction and pioneered new building technologies and structural systems reaching heights never seen before.
Another project that caught my attention was newly finished Aqua Tower by Studio Gang, which introduces a new way of living in the loop, extending the social interaction of the streets into higher levels balconies, all around the dwellings.
Other must see spots if you just have a short stay are: Marina Towers, the newly remodeled Navy Pier and the Millennium Park. As for food experience I would not miss out the Chicago deep dish pizza.
