It’s still hard to believe that in just a few days, I’ll be starting a whole new chapter of my life in New York City—working with CetraRuddy, an architecture firm whose vision truly aligns with what I believe in. While the journey officially starts now, the dream began long before.
I’m Lisset, a recently graduated Peruvian architect—I finished my degree in December 2024. Like many others finishing university, I wasn’t completely sure what would come next. But I did know that I wanted something different. Something that would take me out of my comfort zone, help me grow, and show me how architecture works in other parts of the world. The idea of living abroad, meeting new people, and doing what I love at the same time felt like the perfect combination. That’s when I found Architect-US and decided to take a chance on myself.
In 2022 and 2023, I participated in two Work and Travel programs in the U.S., and during one of those trips, I spent four days in New York. I remember walking around the city feeling completely inspired—the buildings, the energy, the diversity, everything. It’s one of those places that makes you feel like anything is possible. At that time, I never imagined that I’d be returning just a year later—not just to visit, but to live and work as an architect.
I’ll be honest—at first, I had doubts. I wasn’t sure if my portfolio was ready or if I should wait a few more months to improve it. The deadline was approaching fast, and I almost didn’t apply. But I’m so glad I did. A few months later, I had secured a job offer with a firm in New York. The Architect-US team was amazing throughout the whole process—always available, always helpful, and they made sure I felt supported every step of the way.
I had two interviews before receiving the offer from CetraRuddy. In the final one, we ended up talking about a university project that meant a lot to me, and I could tell the connection was real. It wasn’t just about skills—they genuinely cared about my perspective.
Now, with my visa approved and my flight almost booked, everything is starting to feel real. I’m nervous, of course—but even more than that, I’m excited. This is my first time living alone, in a new country, starting a completely new chapter. I’m ready to take it all in.
More soon … this is just the beginning.
