Hello reader!
The past couple of months in Houston have flown by, and one of the most unforgettable highlights has been experiencing the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for the first time.
When I first arrived, one of my colleagues at RDLR mentioned the Houston Rodeo and took the time to explain how it all works—it sounded massive and fascinating. A few weeks later, that same colleague invited me to the Rodeo Cook-Off, and that’s when the real adventure began.
The event kicked off with the cook-off, and it felt like stepping into a whole new world filled with smoky BBQ, live music, dancing, and an infectious buzz of energy. From the second I set foot on the grounds, I was immersed in a whirlwind of Western heritage, pure Texas spirit, and non-stop celebration. I even danced to country pop music and had my first real Texas BBQ which was a full-on experience in itself.
The Houston Rodeo isn’t just a rodeo. It’s an epic blend of concerts, carnival rides, livestock shows, and sportsmanship, all under a sky that seems to stretch as wide as the Texas horizon. This year, over 2 million people gathered to celebrate. I’ve strolled through the massive carnival midway, sampled all the classic fair foods, rode roller coasters, played games and won plushie (stuffed animals), and cheered on incredible rodeo athletes at heart-pounding events like bull riding and barrel racing.
What amazed me most is how deep the roots of this event go. Since 1932, the Houston Rodeo has been more than just entertainment; it’s a cornerstone of Texas culture and community. It supports youth through scholarships and educational programs, making it not only fun but incredibly meaningful.
If you ever find yourself in Houston during rodeo season, do yourself a favor and go. It’s not just a show, it’s an experience that captures the very heart and soul of Texas. As for me~ I’m still on a high from it all, and yes I’m seriously considering getting my own pair of cowboy boots and a hat. Can’t wait to see what next year brings!
