New home and studio in High Desert

San Francisco-based Ryan Leidner Architecture designed a desert home and art studio in California’s High Desert drawing inspiration from mid-century Eichler houses and Southwestern art. Located near Joshua Tree National Park, this home was conceived for painter Heather Day and her partner Chase McBride.

The design combines an exposed post and beam structure with regular spacing that defines the layout of the rooms. This simple logic, borrowed from the Eichler houses, creates a dialogue between functionality and aesthetics, highlighting the influence of the environment and art on the living space.
