Hello Architect-US crew!
I have to say that one of the best things about living here in the United States has been making American Friends! And that of course includes having typical «American» plans!
I am grateful enough to be living in Chicago, nearby many beautiful lakes. Besides the many things Chicago has to offer, it is always nice to get out of the hectic city once in a while… and what better place to go than to an actual lake house? One of my co-workers invited a small group to her Lake House in the state of Michigan and it was so much fun! I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was amazing to feel part of their culture. I understand now how excited everyone was about going there!
Water skiing, kayaking, sunbathing, having drinks on the boat, long walks in the forest,… I can’t even start counting all the many activities we did! I felt so welcomed and part of the group from the very first moment and it was so wholesome to actually feel like I was doing something so different from my own culture. Having bonfires at night after a really energetic day kayaking around the whole lake, playing board games, or eating barbecue… So many great memories from that weekend!
Don’t get me wrong, I love living in the city and enjoying all the many things it has to offer… But spending some days totally immersed in nature, and surrounded by great friends, just felt magical. If you ever get the chance to go to a Lake House (or even rent one for a quick escape), please do it!
I am sure I will be coming back and definitely exploring more lakes! Leaving far from the west and east coast has some perks…
