Morphosis was founded in 1972, by founder Thom Mayne, who is currently serving as design director. Now the firm stands at more than 60 professionals, who remain committed to the practice of architecture as a collaborative endeavor. They have worked on projects all over the world, and their work ranges in scale from residential, institutional, and civic buildings to large urban planning projects.
Named after the Greek term for ‘to form or be in formation’, Morphosis is a dynamic and evolving practice that responds to the shifting and advancing social, cultural, political and technological conditions of modern life.
Morphosis has received 29 Progressive Architecture awards, over 120 American Institute of Architects (AIA) awards, and numerous other honors and recognitions. They are known for their use of cutting edge technologies in their design, and value a multi-disciplined approach to their design.

Architect-US J1 Visa Participants
Andrés Conejero Conesa, one of our incredible architects in the Architect-US Job+J1 Visa Program, and he had the wonderful opportunity during his Master of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid to go travel to India to work with Anupama Kundoo Architects. Conesa’s Master Thesis began as a collaboration with Anupama Kundoo. Andres graduated from ETSAM in 2019 and is now chasing his dreams in Los Angeles with Morphosis!

Morphosis Selected Projects
- Location: Cornell University (Ithaca, NY)
- Project Completion: 2014
- Site Area: 1.28 acres / 0.52 hectares
- Project Area: 101,455 ft² / 9,425 m²
- Service: Academic building with lecture hall, offices, conference rooms, etc.
Gates Hall was created to provide Cornell University students with a combined Computing Science and Information Science department in the same collaborative space. In doing so, they aim to generate collaboration and natural discourse between the disciplines. They implement different strategies that aim to amplify visibility, transparency, and social interaction, the new building interprets the departments’ shared educational mission to “integrate computing and information science—its ideas, technology, and modes of thought—into every academic field.”

Perot Museum of Nature and Science
- Location: Museum of Nature and Science (Dallas, TX)
- Project Completion: 2012
- Site Area: 4.7 acres / 1.90 hectares
- Project Area: 180,000 ft² / 16,723 m²
- Service: Science museum with galleries, theater, café, store, etc.
As public education must deal with funding cuts and limited resources, schools are increasingly dependent on museums and NGOs to make up for a reduced funding in the Science department. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science embraces its role as an educational resource for the Dallas area, engaging a broad audience with multi-sensory, immersive learning environments. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science, «creates a distinct identity for the new institution and enriches the urban environment of the emerging cultural district of Victory Park.»

- Location: The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (New York, NY)
- Project Completion: 2009
- Site Area: 0.41 acres / 0.17 hectares
- Project Area: 175,000 ft² / 16,258 m²
- Service: Academic and laboratory building with exhibition gallery, auditorium, lounge, etc.
41 Cooper Square was built for The Cooper Union with the goal of truly reflecting the character, culture and vibrancy of the 150 year-old institution, while also highlighting the attributes of the city where they were founded. Peter Cooper’s vision around, «…education leads to civic, cultural and practicable enrichment, the institution has subsequently grown to become a renowned intellectual and cultural center for the City of New York.»
