Hello everybody! I’m Alberto, a recently graduated architect from Granada, Spain. The story that brings me here began almost a year ago, when I decided to apply for a scholarship by Fundación Arquia, an entity that allows young architects to do internships in national and foreign studios in Europe and the United States. In the summer of 2022, the results came out and… I had won the scholarship to work at Diller Scofidio + Renfro, in New York City! This opportunity was possible thanks to the collaboration of the foundation and Architect-Us.
Architect-Us has guided and advised me throughout this adventure that finally comes true, since in just one month I will be working and living in New York, a dream made reality. I am very grateful for the treatment received and for all of the help in processing my visa and formalizing my contract with DS+R throughout these months. It is definitely worth the wait, and I encourage everyone to embark on this adventure.
Regarding my academic background, I studied architecture in Granada, Spain, and I did an international mobility program at the ULB faculté d’Architecture, in Brussels, Belgium. And a national mobility program at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, ETSAM. Traveling, living and studying in other countries and cities has allowed me to have a broad education and understand architecture from different points of view. I love discovering new places and meeting new people, and for sure this will be an incredible experience that will make me grow both personally and professionally, as a person and as an architect.
I am very excited about this opportunity, and I have to thank again Fundación Arquia and Architect-Us for allowing me to live this unique experience. I look forward to learning and training during my stay in New York. I want to understand how an architectural firm of the stature of DS + R works, and contribute with my knowledge and my skills to my work environment. You will hear from me very soon, once I am settled in NY, I will be writing more posts.
Greetings y’all!
