When is the best time to look for an architectural job?

If you are thinking about looking for a new job in architecture, there are several things that you should consider, and that is regardless to whether you are currently employed or passively looking for a job. Our experienced team at Architect-US is always here to help you on your next adventure and when in need, you can always reach out to us for questions. If you have been doing this on your own and are continiung to do so, you have to analyze your current situation in your current job or job hunt. If you are employed, you have to balance all of the positives and negatives and think about what the future entails for you in the position you are at. If you see that there is no ladder to climb in that position -or the one that is being offered to you- you have to think about the aspects of the position, environment, and benefits that are making you stay in that position.

Career advancement is a common reason of why many young architects decide to leave a company, and it is completely understandable. Most of us have been in that position and if you feel that you are getting stuck, and there is no opportunity for advancement that is what you should be doing. You have to remember that while it may be tough to find the right new opportunity and not a lot of new positions are being opened, there is always something out there for you. You just have to be patient and persistent with the task. What is important is that you look at the current situation at work and ask yourself a few questions that will help you make a decision moving forward, things like: Are there a lot of people leaving the firm since you started? Is there a constant change in management? Are you clueless with your performance and not getting the right feedback? Is it a negative environment? Is there too much stress? All of these questions will help you come to a conclusion.

Once you have made a decision and you have decided to look for an architectural job, there are several things that you should do in order to place yourself in the best position possible and at the right time for the company. So, if you haven’t already done so, post your architecture resume online and make sure that your LinkedIn is up to date (for tips on how to use LinkedIn as a powerful tool in your job applications click here). Make sure that your most up-to-date work experience is on LinkedIn so that any recruiters or employers that may be looking can find your information easily. Next, begin researching the companies in your area -or any desired area- that are currently hiring. Begin looking at the applications and putting yourself out there so that these companies know you are interested in the position. You also have to make sure that you reach out to anyone in your network that may know someone in the firm that you are interested in, as this is an essential part of the job search process. All of these factors will help you make a decision on your next step, and will help you in your next move.
