Philly is well known to be a city where art is appreciated, with a large number of museums and galleries offered to those who are drawn to fine arts. The museum I want to highlight in this post is Philadelphia’s Museum of art.
HIGHSCHOOL MEMORIES
I would have never thought that the art classes I took in high school would stuck that much in my head, I remember my art teacher passionately discussing the evolution of art through time, particularly I remember her explanation on impressionism, techniques, Monet, Manet and post impressionism, those were really cool art classes but I would have never dare to dream that I would be able to see in person any of these art pieces.
PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART ARCHITECTURE
The museum’s building is colossal! It is known by the huge number of steps that elevate the building from the sidewalk grade, from a wider scale the location of the museum is interesting since it sits at the end of a huge park next to Schuylkill River and it faces city hall by the strongest diagonal parkway of the city. The scale play, columns and colors used through the building are stunning and the first void space entering the building with the iconic stair is breath taking.
I’VE SEEN THIS BEFORE
While walking through the European art gallery I recognized shapes, techniques and somehow a style, it was impressionism! I came across Monet and Manet’s paintings, it was impressive to actually experience the art piece of artists that I have studied before, I was thrilled to see their beautiful pieces and to see the well-known “Japanese Footbridge and the water Lily pool, Giverny”
Also I was able to see other famous artworks like Van Gogh´s Sunflowers and Mies Van der Rohe Armchair and Stool, Model MR20.
IMPRESSIVE, HOW DID THEY?
Room after room, style after style I was blown away by the creativity of humans beings, but uttermost I was impressed by the collection displayed at “Robert and Luanne Pollack” Gallery, specifically two art pieces that gain my attention by opposite traits , the first one was Viggo Johansen painting “My Friends” which executed a lovely depth and detail while portraying a night scene of a group of fri ends illuminated by couple candles and a small dining chandelier, The other impressive piece was “Water Mill” by Frits Thaulow which executes and captures greatly light through reflexion.
For sure I could have spent days through this museum, it’s a top destination if you have the chance to visit Philly.
Thanks for reading through verse 11, the last verse is coming right around the corner, stay tuned!
