It has been an exciting month for me as a young architect, and I am thrilled with my work. The office environment has been supportive, and I have adapted well to the changes in unit measurements and building legislation. Openness to new experiences has made me more adaptable, and I feel invigorated by my work.
ATTENDING PLANNING BOARDS IN NJ
I want to share my experience of attending a planning board meeting, which was the professional highlight of this month. The owner of a property sought approval for a project that was not included in the zoning regulations. The owner brought along architects, engineers, and lawyers in charge of the project and explained how it could benefit the community without causing any problems. It was fascinating to see the level of preparation that went into presenting a case to the planning board. The team presented their arguments, and the owner provided proof to support their case. Neighbors also attended the meeting and gave their opinion on the project.
The level of involvement and engagement from the community members was impressive, and it reminded me of the importance of listening to different perspectives when making decisions that affect people’s lives. The planning board members asked questions and made suggestions to ensure that the project would meet the requirements and benefit the community. It was a great learning experience and an opportunity to witness how democracy works at a local level.
OVERALL
On a personal note, I am delighted to be meeting people from different cultures, which has been an enriching experience for me. I have made new friends from the same program I am in, and we have been exploring the city together during our free time. It’s amazing how much we can learn living in a culturally rich environment where everyone has a unique background.
Overall, I am enthusiastic about the remaining year and a half of my exchange program. I am excited to continue learning from experienced architects, working on new projects, and being part of a different professional environment. The experience has exceeded my expectations, and I am grateful for this opportunity to grow both professionally and personally.
