Settling down in Charlotte

After a month and a half in Charlotte I can say I am nearly completely established. I have made quite a few friends from different places. A couple from work, some from my own country through Facebook, others in sport classes, etc. I am moving in with a friend shortly. The place is closer to my job compared to where I am living now and although rent is higher it is worth the effort.

Public transportation is still a big issue… I have purchased an e-bike. A bicycle equipped with an electric bike motor to assist you when you’re pedaling. The motor will get its power from a rechargeable battery mounted on the bike. This is going to be my means of transportation until the end of the program. The advantages compared to a regular bike are its speed (reducing transportation time) and its comfort (not having to sweat and always carry an extra outfit to change into when getting to work). On the other hand, the downsides would be the rain and cold, which at this time of the year are usual and sometimes getting dirty on the way to work, which does not give a good impression.

Work is really interesting, getting to participate on a different variety of projects such as affordable housing, recreation centers, health projects, etc. This is an opportunity I would have not had in my country and I really appreciate it. The amount of workflow and efficiency without overworking its employers is something I really highlight from the firm I work for. I am looking forwards to see how these projects develop and be part of their evolution.

It has only been 7 weeks since I arrived in the US, but I can say I am really lucky to be where I am today and I´m really excited to be here the following months.
