I’m in my way to start my trainee program in the city of New York and I have mixed feelings about it, I’m excited and very happy about what is coming. But at the same time, I’m feeling nostalgic from leaving home, my family and friends, although I know they will visit me sometime, and a year and a half go through in a fast pace. But we all know how this experience it’s going to be. This excitement I have is also combined with nervous emotions as I’m going to the big city, to the city that never sleeps and the capital of the world. This is a monster, which I will try to domain and live with intensity. It’s not that I’m not capable, I’ve lived all my life in one of the most aggressive cities in South America, that is Bogota, which is 9 millions of inhabitants.
I’m a 26 years old Colombian architect, who loves to travel, meet new colleagues and gain new experiences in architecture, specifically in design. I think that any culture can give you so many knowledge, and after combine it with your own experiences. There is where the creativity comes and the develops great projects. New York is the perfect place for my trainee program , a place where architecture is so important and where many cultures influence themselves on one another.
Now, it’s going to be a great experience to work in such an office like Marin Architects, where I will learn about how architecture is made in this city, how to do regulations works and how they can make these awesome designs. They’ve done quite impressive projects, such as the first Brooklyn apple store. Because as you can see, this city has the ability to converge the most talented and impacting architecture in the world. So, it will be a privilege that I will take with responsibility and enthusiasm. So yes New York City, I’m ready for you.
