I was invited to spend Christmas Holidays with my roommate´s family in the countryside of PA. First of all, they are a very democratic family, and one of her uncles (from Washington D.C) thought it would be fun to give us Donald Trump´s supporting hats as a joke gift, this explains the picture!
We had a very traditional meal the 24th at night with her closest family members. Ham, potatoes, turkey, beans, steak, pies and other delicious dishes, everything home cooked by the house owners. It is always a nice detail to bring something to the table, so I was happy I could find some Argentinian wine at my local Whole Foods for them to try.
It was snowing, so I could experience a real White Christmas. The next day started with Christmas Mass at their hometown church and then we spent most of the day listening to Christmas songs, watching movies and opening gifts of course! Around 7 pm we had another traditional dinner (this one more formal than the one the night before) again, with amazing dishes.
What I can find different from Christmas in Argentina is mainly that in USA the most important day is the 25th (Christmas day itself), families spend the whole day together doing activities and celebrating traditions, while in my home country we only celebrate Christmas Eve and have dinner together the 24 at night. Also, gifts are a huge thing here in USA, people love giving lots of gifts to their loved ones (not necessary expensive items). Everybody takes a lot of time an effort in wrapping and decorating them. While in my country, we usually just give tons of presents to kids , and maybe small details to other family members.
Thank you to my American family for letting me experience a real American Christmas!
