Los Angeles Mayor considers to build a gondola to Hollywood Sign

Eric Garcetti told in a recent interview that he’s considering to build a gondola lift to connect Universal Studios with the Hollywood sign.

Hollywood will be at your fingertips! Well, at least the world famous sign! After the closure of the Beachwood Drive gateway last April the city of Los Angeles may have in a short time a new acces to its most recognizable landmark.

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti told in a recent interview with ABC7 that he’s considering the possibility to build a gondola lift to connect Universal Studios with the Hollywood sign, at the summit of the Santa Monica Mountains.

In the interview, Garcetti said:

«I think we need to have access to the Hollywood sign, both for residents and people who come here. We’ve got to figure out a better way that doesn’t just choke all of the streets with a thousand tour buses. People can’t get out of their own driveways.»

Traffic mitigation would be the main goal, although the construction of the cable car would also have other benefits: attract even more tourists and pay for the maintenance of Griffith Park with the money generated.
