My experience with Architect-US Career Program

I am so excited to begin what will surely be a one in a lifetime experience and I can’t wait to share all my thoughts about it with all of you!

I am so excited to begin what will surely be a once in a lifetime experience, my experience with architect-US career program and I can’t wait to share all my thoughts about it with all of you!

It all onan one Wednesday morning after a long Architectural Design Studio lesson at ETSAM. I unexpectedly came across an Architect-US information paper that announced an Informative session that very same day at the Conference Room. I had always dreamed about working as an Architect in the USA and as I was very curious about the session, I didn’t think twice. That was the first time I met Patricia García, director of the program, who explained all the details of the Architect-US Career Program in a very clear and succint way. I must confess I was a bit skeptical at first since I had heard so much about all the bureaucracy that surrounds the visa procedure. Nonetheless, as everything Patricia had said seemed coherent and consistent, I decided I wanted to give it a try.

After retouching my Portfolio and Resumé, I sent both documents to Patricia and her team who started to look immediately after for Internship opportunities that could match my profile. I was particularly interested in finding an Internship in Boston MA, but it turned out to be very difficult since there was little demand of Internships by other applicants in that area. In any case, New York seemed like a very interesting option as well so Patricia and her team focused on the opportunities that could show up there. After several months of ups and downs, I finally was notified that Inglese Architecture + Engineering, a small to medium firm settled in Rutherford NJ, wanted to arrange an interview with me. The interview went very well and fast, In fact, it lasted only fifteen minutes (the shortest one I had ever done in my whole life). Although I wasn’t sure about what to expect of it, a few hours later they contacted me to offer me an Assistant Project Manager position! I am so excited to start my Internship at Inglese Architecture + Engineering and right now I am signing and getting all my paperwork done. Patricia has helped me so much with everything, from practical advice on how to retouch my Portfolio to explaining all the paperwork timeline after accepting the position I was offered.

Thanks to Patricia, what seemed to be an impossible task has turned out to be a dream come true.

Now, I have to concentrate on preparing everything for this great experience with Architect-US Career Program and make the most of it. I am sure this is going to be a very rewarding and enriching experience; the first step in my professional career as an Architect.
