It is starting to look a lot like Christmas…

Another big holiday of the winter season, the Christmas spirit is all around Portland. The city has many Christmas related activities being one of the most famous The Pioneer Square Christmas tree lighting and the Ship Parade.

 

This year they celebrated the 30th year of the Tree Lighting event. It consists of a 75ft high, real tree, weighting more than 1ton kg, brought to the center of the city by Stimson Lumber Company, which sponsors the event. It also counts with over 10km of LED light cords. The event of the tree lighting was aired by KGW in national television. The event featured a holiday sing-a-long Christmas carols, “Oregon’s Own” 234th Army Band and the Pacific Youth Choir. Besides a variety of stands with a characteristic Christmas market.

In addition to the Christmas festivities, the Port city, hosts a festival of ships decorated with Christmas ornaments. They go up and down along the
