OMA New York and YA Studio have designed 730 Stanyan, a 160-unit residential complex in San Francisco that marks OMA’s first fully affordable housing project in the United States. Located near Golden Gate Park and Haight-Ashbury, the building combines an eight-storey central volume with two four-storey wings designed to better respond to the scale of the surrounding neighborhood.
The façade is defined by modular GFRC panels with a wave-like profile, conceived as a playful reinterpretation of the rhythm and form of the area’s traditional row houses. The panels integrate windows and ventilation elements and vary in length across the façade, curving around the internal courtyards that organize the development.
