Populous has completed the new Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, New York, creating a next-generation home for the Buffalo Bills designed around the city’s demanding climate. The open-air bowl is partially sheltered by a steel canopy, while a hydronic snow-melt system helps manage Buffalo’s heavy annual snowfall and protect the stadium during severe weather.
Wrapped in semi-translucent perforated metal panels, the exterior encloses a 360-degree colonnade with concessions and public areas, while dark grey brick anchors the base of the building. Inside, steeper seating brings fans closer to the field, with the stadium’s geometry and canopy designed to intensify crowd noise and create a more immersive game-day atmosphere.
