US architecture studio Manica has unveiled the design for the new Kansas City Chiefs stadium, a fully enclosed venue with capacity for 70,000 spectators that will replace the iconic Arrowhead Stadium. With an estimated cost of $3 billion and an opening scheduled for 2031, the project will be crowned by a vast translucent roof made up of 37,000 square metres of ETFE panels.
Although the stadium will be completely enclosed, its geometry is intended to preserve the intense acoustics and atmosphere that define the Chiefs’ current home. The design will also incorporate historic elements such as the drum platform and the ring of honour, combining technology, identity and tradition in a new venue created to keep the matchday experience alive.
