Hi everyone! My name is Sethguin, and I’m a Peruvian architect. As an architect, I’ve always been inspired by how cities tell stories through space, and New York is one of the most iconic examples of that. I’m currently going through a big change in my life, as I will be moving to New York City in the next few days.
Since university, one of my biggest goals has been to gain international academic and professional experience. In 2025, I was planning to apply for a master’s degree in architecture, and by a stroke of luck, I came across Architect-US again. I had known about them before, as I discovered their platform while I was still in university and had previously researched their work. This time, I decided to apply with my portfolio and keep my fingers crossed.
After applying, their advisors gave me valuable feedback and showed me which areas I needed to improve in my portfolio to make it more internationally competitive. They also shared helpful tips to strengthen it. So, I got to work!
The next step was being accepted into the Architect-US candidate pool. After that, I applied to different job opportunities and started preparing for interviews. The following month, I had my interview with O’Neil Langan Architects, and I was accepted into the company.
Looking back at the past few months, I still can’t believe how much has changed. I feel a bit nervous, but also very grateful and excited. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions. This is a big opportunity for me, and I will give my best in every project.
This is actually my second time in New York. The first time was in 2022, when I participated in an English language program for a month. I really enjoyed the experience: the architecture, the energy of the city, and everything it has to offer.
I can’t wait to start this new chapter of my life, achieve my career goals, and continue improving my skills.
