Complete the arched extension of St. Louis’ Powell Hall by Snøhetta

The Snøhetta architecture studio has transformed Powell Hall, home to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, with a sculptural extension that respects the historic character of the original Rapp & Rapp building, constructed in the early 20th century. The intervention recaptures the spirit of the former movie palace and projects it into the future with a design that combines restoration and modernity.

The new wing incorporates arched forms that open up to the city, creating an expanded lobby, educational spaces, and service facilities. In addition, a public plaza was designed to connect the building to urban life and guide visitors to the glass façade of the extension, where contemporary geometry dialogues with the history of the site.
