New monolithic metal volume for military museum in Texas

Rafael Viñoly Architects designed the new National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas, with a monumental aluminum structure suspended on concrete pillars. This metal mass, of imposing proportions, symbolically represents the «weight of valor» associated with America’s highest military award.

The museum, located next to Dallas Cowboys Stadium and Texas Rangers Park, raises a 60-by-60-meter block 12 meters high, creating a weightless effect through cantilevers in all four directions. Clad in unpainted anodized aluminum, the building conveys a formal sobriety that dialogues with the dignity of the tribute.
