Norway-based Saunders Architecture has completed a new visitor center atop Lookout Mountain in Maine, USA, that pays homage to the Penobscot Nation and other indigenous peoples of the region. The Tekαkαpimək Contact Station, which opened on June 21, 2025, is located in a remote setting within the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.
The 734-square-meter, cedar-clad building blends in with the landscape and offers a warm welcome to visitors. Inside, the double-height Douglas fir ceiling and side wings with immersive exhibits introduce visitors to the geography, history and traditions of the Wabanaki peoples.
