First Month – July

Hello!

It has already been a month since I arrived to San Diego! It looks it was yesterday when I landed here.

As exciting as challenging, it has been a really intense period. I had to adapt to a great number of new things and deal with unknown processes and situations:

First, getting a car. In San Diego, having a car is almost mandatory; distances are very large and there is no a useful public transport system. As I had already been warned, I put all my efforts in buying one as soon as possible and visited more than ten dealers until I found one.
Now I have a car, it is time to get my American driving licence!

Then, finding a place to live. It is only a few days ago, after jumping in different short rent apartments, that I finally got an affordable room in the vibrant NorthPark. This is one of San Diego’s best up and coming neighbourhoods, with plenty of things to do, as well, as a vibrant night life.

In the office, I keep adapting to their work system and used software’s (it has almost been my first contact with Revit or Bluebeam). However, I have been really well received from my colleges. The company is involved in a wide range of really interesting projects, and I am being able to collaborate in some of them. In addition, it offers a great number of advantages for its workers, from free courses to keep learning to remote work if needed or, my favourite, the possibility of having two Fridays of per month.

Although, I am still trying to adapt myself to California and its lifestyle, it is now, after 4 weeks here, that I am starting to enjoy/feel part of the city. I already had the opportunity to enjoy their amazing beaches and surf in La Joya Shores; try the famous burgers from In N’Out or the tasty mexican food in City Tacos, and more specially, enjoy my first 4th July as a real American, with a bbq and watching the fireworks from San Diego´s bay.

See you in the next month!
