Safdie Architects has unveiled the design for Old Port Square, a new development in the heart of Portland, Maine, that seeks to revitalize the historic Old Port neighborhood. The project includes a 30-story tower with warm, textured materials that evoke the city’s coastal architecture and former fishing piers. The structure is topped by a glazed volume reminiscent of a beacon, a tribute to the area’s maritime character.
The 115-meter-tall tower will be accompanied by a glass commercial pavilion and landscape enhancements designed in collaboration with Michael Boucher Landscape Architecture and Pentagram. The building will house a hotel, residential units and a restaurant on its top floor, all connected by a 10-meter elevated base with lobbies and a café, consolidating a new urban meeting point for residents and visitors.
