Swatt + Partners completes Moss Rock

In Northern California’s wine country, Swatt + Partners studio has designed “Moss Rock,” a home office that appears to float above the landscape. The building, a wood-framed glass box, is supported by two vertical concrete slabs and sits on a nine-acre rural property in Healdsburg, amid dense forests of Douglas fir, arbutus and oak trees. The new office, separate from the main house designed in 2008, seeks to blend respectfully into its surroundings. Its rectangular structure minimizes the impact on the site, extending partly on a flat platform and projecting over a slope to preserve the surrounding nature.
