Brooks + Scarpa has designed Steeplechase, an angular house clad in black metal located in the North Carolina woods. With exaggerated gable roofs reaching 9.4 meters in height, the home fuses modern and traditional elements to blend sensitively into the natural Appalachian environment while respecting 98 percent of the original landscape.
Intended as a contemplative retreat among the trees, Steeplechase offers 239 square meters of serene, open spaces. The project responds to the owners’ desire to leave behind their life in the Hollywood film industry and reconnect with the tranquility of their childhood in Canada.
