Seattle University will receive a major cultural boost thanks to a $300 million gift from philanthropist Richard Hedreen, earmarked for the creation of the new Seattle Art Museum. Designed by Olson Kundig, the building will be located near the main entrance to the campus and will complement the new art school, the Cornish College of the Arts. Although construction will involve the demolition of the beloved Lee Center for the Arts, the new museum is intended to become a dynamic space for artistic expression and collaboration, with a design that combines warm materials and intelligent control of natural light.
