New tree-covered mausoleum for Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Lehrer Architects and AyD have transformed the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles with an innovative open-air “vertical mausoleum”. The structure, which combines thick concrete slabs, open spaces and vegetation, rises 30 meters and blends into the landscape with imposing elegance, making it one of the tallest mausoleums in the United States.

With capacity for 22,500 crypts and 30,000 niches for ashes spread over five levels, the “honeycomb” design uses three-inch-thick concrete slabs to support the weight. From its summit, the mausoleum offers panoramic views of the Hollywood Hills and the iconic sign, reinforcing its connection between memory, architecture and environment.
