Green terracotta covers Disney’s New York headquarters

Disney’s new New York headquarters, designed by SOM Studios and Gensler, imposes itself on Hudson Square with an iconic valley-and-peak silhouette. This 19-story building, clad in a distinctive terra cotta that evokes local architecture, occupies a full block between Hudson Street and Varick Street, and responds to the urban transformation spurred by the recent zoning change in the area.

Named the Robert A. Iger Building, the complex houses not only Disney’s administrative offices, but also production spaces for its newest divisions, such as ABC. The architectural proposal seeks to dialogue with the surroundings without losing its identity, marking a new milestone in the vertical and cultural development of the neighborhood.
