3 MONTHS IN NEW YORK: FIRST IMPRESSIONS IN THE BIG APPLE

Today marks three months since I started my journey as an architectural designer at an architecture firm here in New York. Before I moved, many of my close friends and family expressed concerns about how challenging the city might be, especially for someone like me—new, without any friends, and in a place so far from home. Their warnings made me approach the move with caution, keeping conservative expectations about what life here might look like.

Now, after a few months, I can honestly say that my experience has been nothing like what I anticipated. It’s hard to express in words all the emotions and gratitude I feel every day when I wake up in this incredible city. There are moments, even during a busy day, when I pause and reflect on how lucky I am to be here—whether it’s taking in the stunning views, feeling the vibrant energy of the city, or simply enjoying the unexpected connections I’ve been able to make. These moments of reflection have made me truly appreciate everything around me.

Human connections have undoubtedly been key to making this transition smoother. Although I came here without knowing anyone, I’ve had the pleasure of forming meaningful relationships in a short period of time. Whether it’s with my roommates, coworkers, or people I’ve met through other circumstances, I’ve found a warmth in the city that I didn’t expect. From the very first moment, people have welcomed me with open arms, which has made both my professional and personal experience here so much more rewarding.

In these three months, I’ve truly fallen in love with New York City—the city’s energy, the people, and the endless opportunities the city has to offer. I couldn’t be happier, more at peace, or more grateful for everything this experience has given me so far.
