With only 2 months left on my J1 visa, it is hard to believe how fast time has passed.
It has been over a year since I first arrived in NYC and although I felt at home almost immediately it now feels like I have become somewhat of a local. I have created an every day routine, made new friends and acquaintances and learned a lot about the US. I can find my way around the subway system and have found some favorite spots. While it feels like I have been here forever, it also feels like time has passed very quickly. But isn’t that what they say: «Time flies when you’re having fun».
I always thought I would like living in NYC, but I don’t think I really understood how much the city would actually suit me. It is a great place to live, especially as a young professional interested in art and architecture. Life is fun and inspirational, but hectic sometimes and for someone a bit restless as myself it is a good place to live in order to discover more of the US as well. Something I have really tried to take advantage of during this past year.
But let’s be honest, moving to another country is not always easy, there are certainly ups and downs to it as well. Finding a place to live, getting through administration, understanding the culture and so on. And while considering this it has been really great to have Architect US support. I could not have done it without them and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to come here and have this experience. It’s an experience I truly would recommend to anyone.
For now I will keep enjoying my American adventure and the life of being an architect in NYC.
