Theme of 2023 Contest

‘Time machines

In a passage of his autobiography Frank Lloyd Wright tells how he was invited to a meeting that had been organised, precisely, to explain him why he was not taken into account to design some of the pavilions at the International Exhibition Fair that the City of Chicago planned to promote in the Lake Front area in 1933

While different managing agents of the city gave their explanations, Lloyd Wright alien to the situation, leaves his mind to speculate with a possible project of exhibition site. All of a sudden, he stands up to talk, and expose to his audience 3 different ideas for an Exhibition.

These spontaneous ideas were never materialized in a draft drawing, has nontheless come to us, through the words contained in his autobiography: a message in a “bottle” that has traveled through time keeping the vigorous spontaneity from an optimistic and innovative spirit.

The proposal will reflect on the intimate conditions of living and the collective conditions of working; with an economical use of constructive means, to give form and meaning to the intermediate spaces: those that mediate between the different programs and those that arise between the architecture and the built or natural landscape.

Everything necessary to understand the project will be summarized in a Pdf panel in horizontal A1 format (72 dpi) and a maximum size of 10 MB. The required graphic information: main images of the project; a planimetry of the environment; most significant plans, sections and elevations; possible perspectives, axonometric views, collages, sketches and photographs of models.

Finally, a synthetic text of 100 words must clearly and precisely explain the design arguments that support the proposal.
