GMS is a multi-disciplinary, structural engineering and building envelope consulting firm headquartered in New York City, with offices in Los Angeles, California, Stamford, Connecticut, and Bloomfield, New Jersey.  They take great pride in their expertise in structural design, façade consulting, special inspections, construction administration, forensic analysis, component and systems engineering, and engineering for construction logistics.  Since their inception in 1991, GMS has won over 350 project awards and has had the privilege of working with many talented architects, including ten Pritzker Prize winners.

Their staff collaborates with teams across the country, across disciplines, and across our offices. Expertise is shared throughout the firm, via discussions and augmented by our network intranet. They share their knowledge through case study presentations in-house, writing for national publications, contributing to local, state, and national codes, and speaking at conferences across the country.

Ramon’s experience ranges widely: new buildings, adaptive reuse, special structures such as the tallest building in Spain, the Caja Madrid Tower, to suspending cars in the atrium of the Guggenheim Museum for the Cai Guo-Qiang exhibit. He is an active contributor to the structural engineering community and is currently helping develop new building codes.

Philip Murray is a founding Partner of Gilsanz Murray Steficek. Over his 40 year career, Mr. Murray has been involved in the design and construction of hospitals, theaters, residential and office towers, civic buildings, museums, as well as the renovation of historical buildings.

Gary Steficek is a founding Partner of Gilsanz Murray Steficek. In his 40 year career as a structural engineer he has worked on numerous construction and renovation projects. Gary is licensed in 11 states and the District of Columbia, and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Institute of Steel Construction.

Gilsanz Murray Steficek Selected Projects

35 West 15th Street

New York, NY

GMS provided consulting services for the facades and roofing of this 347-foot, 170,000 SF mixed-use building in the Chelsea in Manhattan. The lower six stories provide classrooms and a half-court gym for a lon-standing, private high-school. Luxury residences occupy floors eight to twenty-five. Construction began in 2012 and completed in 2016. The complicated geometry of the tower façade was executed using a sophisticated unitized curtain wall fabricated in Europe. The podium streetwall is granite with punched windows. The building is certified LEED Silver.

Greenburgh Library

Greenburgh, NY

GMS provided structural engineering services for a new two-story, 23,000 sf addition to the existing library. The building’s façade consists of a substantial amount of glass to utilize the natural light in the interior space. The library also utilized other energy efficient elements and sustainable concepts to qualify for LEED certification.

122 East 23rd Street

New York, NY

GMS is providing exterior envelope consulting services for this new mid-rise residential condominium building located on a through-block parcel at the corner of Lexington Avenue between 22nd and 23rd Streets. The building will consist of two towers on a one story podium. Retail space and residential lobby space are to occupy the ground floor. Parking, mechanical, residential amenity spaces and retail will be included in the cellar level plan. The remainder of the building is residential condominium units.
