My name is Capucine and soon I will be in Ashland, Oregon!
I am 23 years old and I am a recent architecture graduate from Lyon, France who loves to travel. After getting my diploma, my main goal was to get the chance to work abroad, and in the Unites States in particular. And now I am proud to say that I will be able to fulfill this dream of mine.
I started my job search in early 2020 and received an offer from a small but growing architecture studio in Ashland, Oregon. As you probably already know, this has been a very difficult year for travelers. Due to the international situation, there were many obstacles and delays on the road. But Architect-US has stayed with me along the way and helps me get a clearer picture of what will be possible and when. I am very fortunate that my host company, Arkitek, was also willing to wait until the circumstances were more favorable. Finally, after a whole year of complicated administrative work, all the efforts from all parties involved have come to fruition!
I have obtained my J1 Visa and my program will start on April 5. It will last 18 months, during which I aspire to discover the american culture, meet new exiting people, and learn a lot about the design and construction process, on this side of the worlds. I am incredibly impatient to explore the Southern Oregon area which seems to be absolutely gorgeous, with large pine forests, mesmerizing waterfalls and lovely small towns nestled in the valleys. This may seem far from the typical american dream in big cities like New York or Los Angeles, but to me this side of the country is just as interesting, if not more! For sure, this will be a very unique experience that will help be shape my career afterwards.
I am now ready to start this new chapter of my life and looking forward to writing my next post from Ashland!
