This scholarship opportunity is a new gateway between the European and American architectural worlds and we couldn’t be happier for having been the key connection to make it happen. This scholarship is also a celebration of the foundation’s 30th anniversary by providing architects with a new destination for their career to go!

We are extremely excited to announce the official winner for The Arquia Foundation (Fundación Arquia) scholarship in partnership with Architect-US. Thanks to our collaboration with Arquia we can now provide a promising candidate with this spectacular and career-changing opportunity in Diller Scofidio+Renfro New York.

This scholarship opportunity is a new step towards further connecting the European and American architectural worlds. These opportunities provide architects and designers from Spain or Portugal to challenge the parochial views in the US and provide some refreshing perspectives. This scholarship is a celebration of the foundation’s 30th anniversary by enabling recipients to practice in the US, while also supporting the dissemination of cultural, social, professional, and educational projects in the fields of architecture, construction, design, and urban planning.

In the following section we want to highlight the official winner that will be going to New York City to fulfill their dream!!!

Winner:

Felipe Sancho CerveraDS+R

Felipe Sancho Cervera graduated from the Masters degree in Architecture ETSAB – Barcelona Architecture School about a year ago, and is now getting ready to make the move to the USA! Sancho Cervera submitted his Master Thesis based on Ceramics Innovation and Research Centre above a highway. Within the project he submitted to the Arquia Foundation Scholarship, Sancho Cervera goes into detail on a possible redesign of how roads and infrastructure are made to be more sustainable and energy efficient. The roofs are spaces overlooking the production areas in an atmosphere inspired by Casa Milá and Palau Güell. A new place can be built around the infrastructure, embracing it and using its strength as an urban union. From “hump effect” to “call effect”.

Sancho Cervera has been working at ESPINÀS I TARRASÓ, BARCELONA (SPAIN) since October 2019. Here at Architect-US  we are ready to assist Felipe in a variety of ways so he is prepared and ready to travel over to the US to work at the incredible firm, Diller Scofidio+Renfro. He also has blog, so take a look at his other work too!
