Sleep No More, theater in NYC

Already 8 months have gone by and it seems it was only 1 that I moved to the US.

Today I’m going to tell you about Sleep No More, which is one of the most different and surprising things I’ve done in the city so far.

I’ll try not to give too many spoilers of the plot so your first time is like mine. So, what is Sleep No More? It’s what could be called an immersive and interactive theater play loosely based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

It takes place in a hotel in Chelsea every day, and you’ll see a queue waiting to go inside also every day. Once inside, everyone from the audience will be wearing a mask and your phones will be locked in bags. When I said it takes place in a hotel, I meant the whole hotel, and you’ll start roaming around different rooms and floors with really detailed props, lighting… You’ll see the cemetery, the hotel rooms, the hospital, the bar…

It is really encouraged that if you went with someone you take different paths once inside, so each one lives their own completely different experience.

After a little bit of roaming around, you’ll start seeing unmasked people, who will be the actors performing. Once you see one of them, you’ll start following their story (or turn around and go to a different floor), getting really close to them, and if you’re lucky enough you’ll interact with them as well.
Two hours later or so, you have to make sure you don’t miss the finale where everyone will get together again.

Once everything is over, you can gather with your group and talk about your favorite bits and scenes that probably won’t match with your friend’s, and you’ll have missed one of their favorites for sure. Another reason to maybe go back again.
