INTRO
Hi everyone, My name is Eleonora Colacurcio and I am an Italian Junior architect. I am writing to you while experiencing one of my last sunset from my window in the coziness of my home. How long I have been waiting for this moment… you can’t imagine! so let’s start from the beginning of my adventure.
It Was a boring day of January 2021, during one of the many lockdown us Italians went through, when it comes to my mind the brilliant-not-so-brilliant idea to start a new chapter of my life and moving into the U.S. «You will gain experience and take advance from this hard time» I thought to myself; but truth be told, it was a tall order and I didn’t have any idea of where to start: J1-visa, sponsor, program, embassy were world that gave me headaches just to hear about. Someone once told me that as the sun raises each day, Google gives you answers…and so it was!
I put my self in a googling mode and I crushed into Architect-US website. Once subscribed, I started following their instagram page.
FLASH BACK ALLERT As many of you, I also have the passion for the photography. during my first trip to NY , in the 2017, I took a photo of the one world trade center building, from a particular view, i.e. as it seemed to have no end, and that photo became one of my favourite.

STARTING THE PROCESS
Peace of mind and serenity were my priorities therefore I decided to apply for the job+j1 visa program. This is a very useful option if you are not able or if you don’t have time to flush out an opportunity that suits your needs. So I took the first step, now I had to take the second one: make a portfolio.
let’s be honest, I do love being an architect but I do not like doing my portfolio. I dare say that I hate to do it and I know that many of who are reading are part of the team. Even in this case, Architect-US held out its hand and thanks to the portfolio plan; my portfolio was reviewed and settled, get ready for the US employers audience.
PACKAGING
Since that moment almost a year has gone and took away with itself a travel ban and a dozen of no-happy-ending interviews. After that I had one more interview, the Interview, and now I am packaging all my stuff so you can imagine how it went. My only problem is how to squeeze my life in 2 suitcases of 23 kg each but I feel confident… Goggle will support me even this time!
