My name is Mara and I am an Spanish young architect from Madrid. Since I finished my Master in architecture at the ETSAM (Madrid) in 2020, I have worked for two different architectural studios. The first of them was a small studio in Madrid specialized in educational buildings and the second one – in which I was working for more than 15 months- was a firm specialized in the design and refurbishment of pivate houses both in Spain and in the UK. These experiences have been very enriching both personally and professionally.
Apart from this, during my college years I had the opportunity to participate in an exchange program in India at CEPT University (Ahmedabad) which apart from being an incredible experience, planted in me the concern of working abroad and discovering new cultures and ways of understanding architecture.
In this regard, Architect-us has helped me to transform that desire into real, and here I am now, flying to New York to start my training program at an architectural awarded studio in Brooklyn.
I recognize that at first I felt kind of scared because the process since I became one of their candidates and received the offer was very fast but now that my American adventure is about to start I am so excited!.
When making the final decision, the location of the program was a key factor to me. Ever since I was a little girl and spent the summers studying English in the US (which gave me the chance to visit NYC several times), I knew that I wanted to spend a period of my life in this city.
From my experience with Architect-US I expect to learn different and more productive workflows in my field and to enhance my skills and gain exposure to the U.S. culture. I consider this opportunity a big professional challenge to continue growing as an architect while having the time of my life in the city.
