First month: December (or almost)

Hi everybody!

As I told you, after a very long wait I’ve been working with Diller Scofidio + Renfro in New York since last December!

As days pass I feel I’m becoming more a New Yorker. Even if I’m always saying to my friends and family that it may sound like a cliché but I’ve never had the feeling of being a stranger in New York (or almost never). This city has so many things, ambiences, places, people, foods… that you can always find your place in it!

And, referring to this “or almost never” up this line and to this “or almost” in the headline… I’m going to talk a little bit about the Macy´s Thanksgiving Parade that took place just two days after I landed by the very end of November. I was not completely honest with you saying that I’ve never felt like a stranger in New York.

By then, I was looking for an apartment to live during my stay in the city and, as by Thanksgiving the whole country stops and celebrates, it was impossible to visit potential homes this day. So, taking benefit of my jetlag, I woke up early, took my backpack and went to Central Park West Ave to take a medium/good spot to see the parade with views to the park.

I have to admit that I was a bit out of place surrounded by the crowd cheering to these giant cartoon’s characters balloons, the majority of which were completely unknown to me. Not to mention the crazy must of the parade: the turkey-hats, a tremendous success among the public. Anyway, I guess this feeling is something that happens when you go to one of the most American things you can go during the entire year and you have not got rid of the jetlag yet.

See you in the next post!

Bye from my fire escape! (as you can see I found a true New York style apartment)
