Summer in Central Park

First month and culture

If you ever dreamed about the «fast pace» culture of New York City you are totally wrong! Only when you experience it is when you can truly understand how this city life can be intense and fast. Every day is a new challenge and it is full of life! There will always be something to do after work so that was my welcoming month to the city that never sleeps.

The Office

At the beginning this first month was exactly like that, everything just happened super quickly and intensively! Starting by the first days in the office, where the demand for autonomy and responsibility is high. Besides you are entrusted with as much responsibility as you can take, also just have to be confident and conscious to take it! I feel this will be an incredible professional growth experience!

The House

Settling in has also been an experience on its own! I have chosen to live in the Harlem neighbourhood, – North of Central Park – since it has a huge history on African American Culture, and where you can get amazing soul food and Soul/Jazz music, and probably see a concert of the Harlem Gospel Choir. The fact of living so close to the Hudson River front has allowed me to bike from work every single day, and it is an amazing relaxing commute.

Culture Events

Although there will always be plenty of cultural events to explore, this could not have been a better month to start since it starts out with the Memorial Day, where it is impossible not to enjoy the city outside. This is a special date for all U.S.A to honor those who serve and the veterans who served in the military. There is so much happening in every corner, from the fleet week at the Intrepid sea air & space museum. It is the official beginning of the summer in New York so you can expect to see plenty of people sunbathing in every park in the city, and the most epic place is exactly Central Park. Also, plenty of people attend the iconic Memorial Parades, one in Queens and another one in Brooklyn, and also family and neighbours barbecues.

Moreover, culturally speaking I can already tell that New York is not only about its buildings and its peculiar special hidden places, with cultures from all over the world. In addition, it has a lot to do with the people who are part of the essence of this city. You can expect to find a little village of anywhere in the world on this “little island”.  This means you can have a bit of a taste of a lot of cultures in only one place.

Let’s see what next month will be all about.
