These past days it has been really sunny and hot in NYC, that is why I decided to go to Fire Island on Sunday as a one-day getaway. I have been told about this amazing place several times since I am here, so I wanted to know what all the hussle was about!
It is true that in order to get there, you have to take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) from Penn Station to Babylon (a cute town in Long Island), then a bus until the Ferries Terminal, and finally, a ferry. To be honest, the trip is quite long and it may seem that it is not worth it. I definitely thought that on my way there! But when I arrived, it was wonderful, it was nearly empty and the beach was really long! It was quite an amazing place.
The water was not the cleanest, but it is not bad. We walked along the coastline and explored all that beautiful area. There is some cute beachy stores, a lot of ice cream places and a wonderful lighthouse, in between the Fire Island beach and the Robert Moses State Park.
After the whole day playing some games, beach bats, walking around… At sundown we started our trip back to the city, another 3 hour trip! But I slept the whole journey, so it wasn’t that bad!
All in all, it is a one-day getaway that I really recommend, even if it takes a while to get there! But it is definitely not a trip to do on a daily basis…
